Released on November 30th, this is the way to learn about wine …… through experiences, whether you are young or old, a traveller or a “stay at home” or a WSET student. This book is not a wine guide, nor is it a travel guide. It is a memoir of our wine experiences over half a century from student days to retirement and old age. Certainly this book involves and includes travel, mostly across the wine regions of France especially Burgundy, Loire, and Alsace which are our three favourite places to visit. Several chapters however may read like a guide, though this is only because of our experience with terroir, culture, history, appellations, philosophy, winemakers, wine tasting, wine collecting, neuroscience and on being a wine judge. But rest assured, everything is practical and has added to our enjoyment of wine, we hope you will learn from our experiences and mistakes and really hope It’s Not About The Wine will add to your enjoyment too.
An Englishman in Nepal is a personal account of a years worth of time spent in Nepal over an extended period, a period that changed my life and it could change yours too if you focus on the right things and engage with the people of this extraordinary country. Kathmandu is a veritable “gold mine” of culture, history, diverse ethnic groups, religion, architecture, food, art, music, museums …… and yet tourists rarely step beyond “the monkey temple”, the bazaars of Thamel, the cremation ghats of Pashpatinath before taking a bus to Pokhara to sit beside a lake looking at the beautiful unclimbed snow peak of Machapuchare drinking Coke or beer. Through personal experience and anecdotes An Englishman in Nepal makes the case for slowing down physically and metaphorically and for being mindfully selective in visiting Nepal.
Values in education is a major concern globally but with little or no guidance for teachers on how to engage with students in a non-directive way. This pocketbook, V4C (Values For Children) was developed from the P4C (Philosophy For Children) approach and has been used in the development of 200 schools and training of 2000 primary school teachers in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Values For Children concept and process became part of our teacher training and school development programmes and we started to observe positive changes in classroom and general school behaviour across the student population. A step by step approach is described to enable the teacher to run a lesson on any issue of values or morals.
